Mathias Cormann
Shadow assistant treasurer and shadow minister for financial services and superannuation; senator for Western Australia
Cormann is the shadow assistant treasurer and shadow minister for financial services and superannuation. He is also chair of the Senate Select Committee on the Scrutiny of New Taxes. He was appointed to the Senate to represent the State of Western Australia in June 2007.
He has been a ministerial chief of staff to Western Australia state government ministers, a senior adviser to then-Western Australian Premier Richard Court and an adviser to then-Justice and Customs Minister Chris Ellison. Between 2003 and 2007 he worked for health insurer HBF in a range of senior management roles, including as general manager of HealthGuard and HBF Health Insurance.
Before migrating to Perth from Belgium, Cormann graduated in law at the Flemish University of Louvain (Leuven).
